title: Build Reliable OpenShift Across Data Centers Faster
description: This webinar helps attendees recognize where their own environment falls short of those seven conditions and explains why the problems they encounter are common and well understood, all in the framework of a proven use case of a large enterprise that spent a long period working with numerous consulting teams. Its leadership placed the platform and operations teams on one project, working together with Red Hat, and the result was repeatable OpenShift installs across multiple data centers. See which problems each team could not solve alone, including out-of-band access across data center and security boundaries, node configuration that stays accurate as hardware changes, and the hub and spoke model Red Hat uses to create clusters at multiple sites.

Many enterprises planning to leave VMware are evaluating OpenShift Virtualization, and many of those projects slow down after the first successful install. A cluster that works in the lab behaves differently across data centers, under enterprise security rules, and after the first hardware change, and teams find that they cannot show their process is repeatable. Years of effort and consulting spend can pass without a result. The cause is that Kubernetes expects every node to arrive with current firmware, an immutable operating system, a complete machine configuration, dependable networking, correct DNS entries, and security tokens already in place. On bare metal, someone must build and maintain that environment, and the responsibility often falls between the platform team that owns OpenShift and the operations team that owns the hardware.

This webinar helps attendees recognize where their own environment falls short of those seven conditions and explains why the problems they encounter are common and well understood, all in the framework of a proven use case of a large enterprise that spent a long period working with numerous consulting teams.

Live demonstrations give attendees a working reference to compare against their own process. Platform engineers, operations leads, VMware migration teams, and infrastructure leaders will leave with a checklist for assessing their bare metal readiness and specific technical reasons for bringing platform and operations teams into the same project.

Key Takeaways:

1. Kubernetes expects each node to arrive with API-driven infrastructure, current patches, an immutable operating system, a fully configured machine, dependable networking, correct DNS entries, and configured security tokens, and bare metal provides these conditions only through deliberate operational work.
2. Repeatable OpenShift installs result when the platform team that owns OpenShift and the operations team that owns the hardware and its automation work on the same project.
3. Ignition files generated from live inventory stay accurate through patching, recabling, and component replacement, whereas files made manually require manual edits after each of those events.
4. Out-of-band control that works in a single lab frequently needs a different design across data center domains and wherever security teams isolate the control plane from worker nodes, and planning for this early shortens the project.
5. OpenShift automation delivered as maintained product content gives teams a repeatable method that they own and operate, and the same approach applies to other Kubernetes distributions and virtualization platforms.
